Ritualistic properties of Liminal spaces.

Pre liminal

Within the space of a ritual you have the pre liminal stage the arena is empty untouched clean and waiting, the stage is set to allow the ritual to take place. Cleanliness is key it allows the lack of order to become ordered. Washing is seen in ritualist practice as a way to prepare for the acceptance of something. in Christianity a baptism can be seen as the washing stage a clean slate to allow one to accept God or Jesus in that case the body is the ritual space. It removes previous states, it cleans the sin.

Liminal

During the liminal stage the ritual takes place. the action and the movement the performance. This is where the entropy happens Its is temporary It cannot last it is the action that makes the ritual. It is the action that creates something or accepts a state of play. this is where the chaos happens the actions.

Post Liminal

Post liminal is where the artifacts are found much like in Road Side Picnic, the event has happened and what is left is the trash the objects discarded for those to find, In that novel, the “Zone” is encountered only after the incomprehensible event has occurred. What remains are artifacts — objects charged with the memory of an unseen transformation. after a war this is the devastation. After a performance this is the sculpture the art of something that had happened once.
